2015 event honored Peter and Sue Freytag

Sue and Peter Freytag

Peter and Sue Freytag moved to Palm Coast after retirement in 2002. The couple is very generous and believe charity begins at home. The Freytag’s were instrumental in creating the Children’s Rehabilitation Center with the support of Florida Hospital Flagler. They are also involved in the local “Take Stock in Children” program, providing two college scholarships for deserving high school students with financial and social challenges.   Additional support is given to the local library, the Palm Coast Arts Society and the Washington Oaks State Park. In 2013, they gave one of the first major gifts to Pollard Hall, the new Communications Building at Flagler College in St. Augustine. Peter and Sue are actively serving on boards at Flagler College, such as the Business Advisory Board and the Women of Vision Advisory Board. They are also very supportive of other institutions, including their Alma Maters.

Peter graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, majoring in finance. He then served in the Army as a 2nd lieutenant and retired as an Armor Captain in the Illinois National Guard in 1965. In 1960, Peter joined the State Farm Insurance corporate headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois. After 39 years, Peter retired from his role as the Vice President of Common Stocks, where he managed investments for the organization. Peter is a member of the University of Wisconsin’s Bascon Hill Society and has organized a Faculty Support Fund for their business school.

Sue graduated from the University of Illinois in 1965 and pursued her love for teaching. After 26 years at the Bloomington, Illinois school system, she retired.  During her career she was active in shaping academics by working closely with the two local universities to train future teachers. Sue has served on a number of boards, such as the Board of Directors for the Library of Friends at the University of Illinois, the Chancellors Circle, and the Presidents Council. She established an University of Illinois Endowment Fund to further new projects at the education and social science libraries.

Sue and Peter are founding members of the 20/20 Society, along with their 4 children. Peter has joined the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation Board, where he is heavily involved in fundraising.
